Creative
Direction

Recess was designed to evoke the nostalgia of childhood while feeling contemporary and welcoming to adults. The visual language draws from playground aesthetics — rounded letterforms, bright primary colors, and simple iconography — to create a brand world centered on joy, curiosity, and collective play.

The system was intentionally flexible so the identity could live across posters, digital platforms, and social content while maintaining a recognizable visual voice.

The Recess Playbook

The Recess Playbook was a recurring monthly series offering practical ways for adults to incorporate play, creativity, and curiosity into everyday life. Each volume paired imagery and typography with simple prompts and ideas designed to make play a regular part of daily routines.

IMPACT

Recess became a gathering point for adults seeking a return to play. Attendees often shared that the experience allowed them to reconnect with parts of themselves that had been set aside in adulthood — curiosity, imagination, and creative freedom. The visual campaign attracted a community of artists, makers, and thoughtful participants who valued creativity and intentional connection. Through design, messaging, and events, the project helped cultivate a space where play was taken seriously again.
